Horemans International Loft
Bill "The Book" Richardson
Welcome to my site. It is constantly under construction these days, so keep checking back. I am trying to add more pictures of the pigeons, and if you have any interest in Jiu-Jitsu, please see those pages below. Also please feel free to see the Articles Page, which contains close to 80 of the 120 articles I have written.

Updated Introduction (04-26-10):

New Aricles:

Possibly I am going a little overboard with the pictures,
but then what else do you got to do?

A picture of the top German racer "The Book". As a young bird, he was 3rd, 7th, 9th, 10th and his nestmate also added a 2nd and a 6th. The pigeon was bred (and named) by the super fancier Dieter Siebert of Germany. The pigeon also happens to be the full brother to my pigeon "The German"
(see picture below).

"The German" - Bred by Dieter Siebert of Germany.
The nestmate to "The German" finished 182 in the South African race and should be shipped here shortly.
I am in the midst of writing an article about these pigeons and the South African race. I hope to have it done in the next couple of days, so stay tuned!

Inbred Horemans off the great racer, The Mealy Cock

Eye of the Mealy Cock
If you look very carefully, you will see four yellow dots in this eye that look something like a tiger paw. This is a very good picture of a very small cluster. Clusters tend to get bigger with age. I have always wondered if the number of spots grow or if the existing spots grow in size, but this particular cock is two years old and the number of spots has not changed.

The Daughter to the Mealy Cock
If you look very carefully, you will see that she also has a cluster that is not as pronounced as the father's, but it will eventually be bigger than his as the beads of the cluster grow.

The Red Pair - This Pair raised two youngsters in 2009, both were excellent racers. The best of these is currently being backcrossed into the Pete Line this year.

The Qualls Hen - Placed well in the Snowbird Race - Part of the Survivor Pair

The Survivor Cock - Son to the Survivor Hen which won the Survivor Series as a seven year old. Also Mother to a 600 mile winner.

Like the German, the Survivor Pair is on a secret mission that will be explained sometime in the future.

The Super Cock with his new super sister, Super Fly
As you know, I talk about the Super Cock quite often. However, the Super Cock doesn't like to have his picture taken. That is why I was pretty excited to even get this picture of him. I can't really think of any place else to put this picture, so I am going to put it here for now.

Some Youngsters From The Second Round Eating Breakfast And Wondering Why You Care!
If we must talk about Zipper, then we also need to add some balance to the discussion. I was taking some pictures of a pigeon for Ed Lorenz, and since they were all on the ground eating, I though it might be a nice time to get a small group shot. There are others just like these to the left and right, but the picture got too small if I included them all. This was an extremely nice round of youngsters.

Please take the time to read this article and see the pictures. It is acutally kind of funny...and a little bit strange.

The Mexican Connection
About a year ago, I was contacted by a fancier in the Southern California area by the name of Jose Navarro. Unbeknownst to me, Jose had been a friend of Ed Lorenz’s for several years, and it was Ed that suggested that Jose contact me. Jose’s English is restricted, and my Spanish is nonexistent, so our conversations have been limited at best.
Jose wanted me to grade and pair his pigeons. While I don't often grade pigeons on an individual fancier basis, I almost never pair pigeons for other people. However, because Jose is a friend of Ed’s and because I was planning of visiting Ed, we worked it out so that I could grade Jose's pigeons at Ed’s house on my next visit.
As I remember it, he had about 80 pigeons to grade on that first visit, and to be honest, they were not the best pigeons that I have seen. As a result, we worked on a "get well" plan that would quickly improve his loft. As part of that plan he agreed to remover approximately 50 percent of his existing stock and to begin replacing the remaining 50 percent with better pigeons. As part of the replacement plan, he purchased several Horemans from me including the 931 hen from my Super Pair (she was a very good breeder for me), the 8924 cock from a Horemans he (Park Rat)/Verbart backcrossed cock (his father is a brother to 931). He also bought two Horemans from Ed Lorenz. Within his existing pigeons, he had four quality pigeons including an excellent hen from the late Pete Lorenz’s Hit Pair, which was already a proven breeder having bred a very high placement in the AU race that had taken place in that area several years earlier. Through this combination of pigeons, I was able to put ten pretty good pairs of pigeons together.

Verbart Hen (nest) and the Triple Inbred (TIC Cock) Son of the Super Cock
Jose does not fly himself, but he does ship pigeons to the races in Mexico. For those of you that don't know anything about Mexico, you might not be that impressed, but did you know that that Guadalajara has approximately 600 lofts in a very small area, and that it is common for them to ship 20,000 pigeons a race? Jose shipped approximately 30 Horemans crosses to Mexico to compete in these races. Jose provided me with a number of race sheets; however, because of his limited explanation of the race sheets, and again, because of my nonexistent Spanish, I am going to just stick to the results of the major combine race sheets. This is unfortunate because he gave me seven more races sheets where he placed very high, but I have a feeling that they are either from one loft races or they are offshoots from the combine results (a money race within a combine race). At any rate, you only have to see the following front page combine results to get the idea that he did very well in Mexico this year.
At 230 km and against 20,076 pigeons, he place 5th, 13th, and 20th.
At 300 km and against 19,976 pigeons, he placed 25th and 33rd.
At 360 km and against 19,576, he placed 7th, 15th, 45th and 46th.
At 430 km and against 15,575, he placed 13th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 23rd and 26th.
Both the 931 hen from the Super Pair and the 8924 cock from the Horemans/Verbart backcross pair produced very well for Jose this last year, and he was also able to raise a few youngsters for stock. In fact, I am very high on one of the sons to 931. Children from both the 931 hen and the parents from 8924 cock showed up big in several other lofts this year as well. As I was unable to fly any direct children from the Verbart hen, it is very nice to see so many of her grandchildren flying so well, especially since I took some flack for selecting this less than stellar young bird performer from the remains of Ed's race team for a backcross into my Horemans family in first place. This year, two grandchildren placed in the top ten of the combine on a 350 mile race in Southern California and two others were the top young birds for that same fancier. My partner was also successful with several grandchildren from the Verbart hen this year. Two of her grandchildren, when doubled back to two brothers of the 931 hen, will be headed for Denmark early this coming year.
In grading Jose's pigeons this year, we both agreed that there was little reason to keep working with the remaining 50 percent of his previous stock, so going forward he will be working with the Horemans and a few crosses.
Special Note:
(04-04-09)
The original Horemans/Verbart mating was made up of the double inbred Broken Leg Cock from the Super Pair, and the Verbart Hen. I bred this pair together for two years, and initially, I kept two hens and two cocks from the mating. I have since sold one of those original hens and one of the original cocks. The remaining cock is the Hercules cock shown below. The hen that I sold has since bred a cock that was 3, 1, 3, and 26th in five old bird races. A daughter of the original cock that I sold has also breeding very well for Curtis Harman in the San Fernando Valley, and of course one of the pigeons mentioned above, 8824 is a full brother to Curtis's pigeon. The other pigeon mentioned about 931 is a full sister to the Broken Leg Cock who was mated to the Verbart in the first place. This year, the Verbart Hen is mated to a triple inbred son of the Super Cock.
